Reata Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to discovering, developing, and commercializing innovative therapies for individuals afflicted with severe or life-threatening illnesses. A key focus is bardoxolone methyl (often referred to as bardoxolone), which is currently undergoing Phase 3 clinical trials for two distinct conditions: chronic kidney disease (CKD) associated with Alport syndrome, and a specific type of pulmonary arterial hypertension linked to connective tissue diseases. Bardoxolone also has an offering for autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). The pipeline further includes omaveloxolone, currently in Phase II development for Friedreich's ataxia. Reata is also advancing Phase 2 studies for various other chronic kidney diseases, such as IgA nephropathy, type 1 and type 2 diabetic CKD, hypertensive CKD, and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, among others. Beyond these, the company's earlier-stage development includes RTA 901, aimed at neurological disorders, and RTA 1701, which holds potential for treating a spectrum of autoimmune, inflammatory, and fibrotic conditions. The company has established strategic partnerships, including an agreement with Kyowa Kirin Co., Ltd. for the development and commercialization of bardoxolone across various renal, cardiovascular, diabetes, and metabolic indications within a broad territory spanning Japan, China, Hong Kong, Macao, South Korea, Taiwan, and several Southeast Asian nations (Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia). Additionally, Reata collaborates with AbbVie Inc. to jointly research, develop, and commercialize second- and later-generation Nrf2 activators for all indications excluding renal, cardiovascular, and metabolic applications. Originally incorporated in 2002 as Reata Discovery, Inc., the company officially became Reata Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in May 2005. It is headquartered in Plano, Texas.
